Second graders are observing how the Earth’s rotation and revolution cause patterns in the sky. Our Sun creates shadows that change throughout our day due to our planet’s movement.
Our 3rd Graders learned ALL about fossils with their science teachers. In STEM Lab, we created 2 different types of fossils that are commonly discovered by paleontologists. The students measured the fossils using inches and centimeters. Using evidence that we observed from the fossils, the kids predicted where the fossil could have been located.
Our Kinders are learning what causes the pattern of day and night. We are describing what we might see, hear and even smell during these times. The kiddos were challenges to create an artifact using Legos to show their thinking.
We Love GRANTS!! A huge Thank YOU goes out to our wonderful Frey Foundation and the Georgia Mineral Society! The STEM Lab received two STEM in Action Coding & Mineral Collection kits.
Our 3rd graders are learning how powerful landslides expose minerals that were previously hidden under Earth’s surface. Their challenge is to program Botley Robot to pick up specific minerals along the path of the landslide for further testing. The kids are learning to WRITE the code that will be sent to Botley. Tough Stuff!!
5th Graders were able to observe how beach erosion takes away our precious SAND!! Check out how these kiddos experimenting with water, waves, erosion & deposition!!
Our Fabulous 5th graders observed how moving water breaks down the banks of rivers over time changing its shape. This force causes erosion and carries sediment to different locations. We saw how new chutes and even ox bow lakes can be formed by this process. New landforms, called DELTAS, often form at the mouth of rivers when sediment is dropped into the ocean. This process is called DEPOSITION. Questions? Ask a 5th grader!!!!!
FREY 3rd graders have been learning about how are rivers and lakes become polluted. We learned how water treatment specialists are special engineers that design ways to clean our water to keep us safe. IT was time for these BRILLIANT kids to take on the role of ENGINEERS and build water filters!!
These ENGAGED 5th graders are using TECHNOLOGY to view real-time Earthquake data. Did you know that earthquakes happen EVERYDAY!! Thanks to the FREY Foundation!!
5th Graders are learning how Earth has cracks, or faults, in its crust where rocks on either side of the crack have slid past each other. This releases a HUGE amount of energy and can cause EARTHQUAKES!! The students were asked to build a SAFE shelter using these shake tables. Some worked well, but them it was time to INCREASE the MAGNITUDE!!
