STEM NIGHT IS MARCH 12TH 6PM – 7:30PM

Frey Families Save the Date… Our 8th Annual STEM Night is Thursday, March 12th from 6 pm to 7:30 pm! Join us for a FREE evening of STEM activities for the whole family! There will be lots of hands-on activities including Coding with Ms. Sanders and Mrs. Orr, experiencing Virtual Reality and working with Merge Cubes in the Learning Commons, exploring QuiverVision, participating in Egg-Cited for March Madness, exploring the STAR Lab with Mr. Tesar and Mrs. Scarpinato, Makerspace Challenges with Mrs. Sherman, and so much more! This is an evening you won’t want to miss!

What are Squishy Circuits?

Fab 5th graders have learned ALL about electricity: circuits, switches, conductors, insulators, electrons, and SOO much more!!  Time to put their knowledge to the test!  Using LEDs, 9-volt batteries, Play-Doh, modeling clay & wire the kids had to create a simple circuit that would conduct electricity!!  May designs FAILED in the beginning, but through collaboration and design improvement WE DID IT!!

Static Electricity is Electrifying!

5th Graders explored MOVING electrons with our Van de Graaff generator.  A Van de Graaff generator is an electrostatic generator which uses a moving belt to accumulate an electric charge. The students stood on a plastic crate (insulator) while touching the hollow metal dome (conductor).  This caused their bodies to become negatively charged.  Check out our results!!

Coding About Ecosystems!!

CODING is a FOREIGN LANGUAGE!!

Our 4th graders have learned EVERYTHING about ECOSYSTEMS!  It is time to Show What We Know!! We are using a coding app called PBS ScratchJr. Our challenge is to demonstrate the flow of energy in an ecosystem beginning with the sun that includes producers, consumers, and decomposers.  The kids have creative flexibility to design their own sprites within the program as long as the challenge is completed.

I honestly have been BLOWN AWAY  by the coding creativity of these KIDS!!  They understand the topic and are showing their own personalities in their coding!!!  Teacher’s DREAM!!
