Learning to Write Code for Robots!!

We Love GRANTS!!   A huge Thank YOU goes out to our wonderful Frey Foundation and the Georgia Mineral Society!  The STEM Lab received two STEM in Action Coding & Mineral Collection kits.

Our 3rd graders are learning how powerful landslides expose  minerals that were previously hidden under Earth’s surface.  Their challenge is to program Botley Robot to pick up specific minerals along the path of the landslide for further testing. The kids are learning to WRITE the code that will be sent to Botley.  Tough Stuff!!

How do RIVERS Change their Shape Over Time?

Our Fabulous 5th graders observed how moving water breaks down the banks of rivers over time changing its shape.  This force causes erosion and carries sediment to  different locations.  We saw how new chutes and even ox bow lakes can be formed by this process.  New landforms, called DELTAS, often form at the mouth of rivers when sediment is dropped into the ocean.  This process is called DEPOSITION. Questions?  Ask a 5th grader!!!!!
