Our STEM Lab needed a few more iPads to allow us to create smaller collaborative learning groups for our projects. We have such an AWESOME community and Foundation of GIVERS!!
Taking our study of Force & Motion to the next level with roller coasters!!! 2nd graders investigate how the size & weight of a marble effect how much force is needed to get it to the end of the coaster.
We LOVE using literature to kick off our Lessons!! #FreyFOUNDATION
FREY 1st graders are learning how to formulate a HYPOTHESIS when asked a question. We are also learning that we need to conduct an INVESTIGATION to see if our HYPOTHESIS is correct.
We learned that shadows can be different colors too!!!!
2nd Grade students worked in collaborative groups to design & create cars powered by balloons for our Force & Motion unit. We connected our project to literature by reading If I Built a Car by Chris Van Dusen. This was a LONG process, but all classes have FINALLY tested their creations!! We had many successful designs! A special congratulations goes out to the top cars that went the farthest distance in their class.
Our Kinders are learning what causes the pattern of day and night. We are describing what we might see, hear and even smell during these times. The kiddos were challenges to create an artifact using Legos to show their thinking.
Our 5th graders are learning about matter, along with physical & chemical changes. We took our CHEMICAL reactions to the next level with ELEPHANT’S TOOTHPASTE!! It has nothing to do with elephants OR toothpaste, but scientists relate the reaction’s foaminess and size to that of and ELEPHANT!! We understand that this reaction was a chemical change because of the increase in temperature AND the fact that a gas was released.
Thank you FREY Foundation and our AWESOME Frey community for these supplies!
First graders are learning about LIGHT and how we see objects. We had questions about whether we need light to see in the dark. Our hypotheses were were mixed between Yes AND No, so an experiment was planned!!
Question tested: Do we need light to see in the dark?
Our 4th graders dissected OWL PELLETS to better understand how energy is transferred in an ecosystem. We learned how raptors swallow their entire prey, including the bones and fur. These birds must regurgitate the indigestible parts to make room for more food. This is how the OWL Pellet is created!! YUMMY!! No….it’s not poop!!
We Love GRANTS!! A huge Thank YOU goes out to our wonderful Frey Foundation and the Georgia Mineral Society! The STEM Lab received two STEM in Action Coding & Mineral Collection kits.
Our 3rd graders are learning how powerful landslides expose minerals that were previously hidden under Earth’s surface. Their challenge is to program Botley Robot to pick up specific minerals along the path of the landslide for further testing. The kids are learning to WRITE the code that will be sent to Botley. Tough Stuff!!
